The MABC coach mentoring program is designed to bring coaches together to share ideas, build relationships, and learn from experiences of veteran coaches. The program provides a structure to assist with newer coaches’ development and retention in our profession.

Maine Association of Basketball Coaches

Purpose: To serve new and/or inexperienced basketball coaches in the state of Maine to better help them in dealing with the challenges and pressures within the profession of high school basketball coaching.

Possible Topics: Budgets, dealing with parents, dealing with administrators, Off-season planning, Time Management, Player-Coach relationships, Coaching your coaches, Coaching and dealing with family demands, General stresses of coaching, Keeping it in perspective, Season planning, Community pressures, Motivational Ideas, AAU Relationships, Balance, Summer Programs

Experienced Mentors: Maine Basketball Hall of Fame coaches, retired coaches, current and long-tenured MABC coaches, conveniently and geographically located throughout the state

Communication Methods: in person, phone, Zoom

The MABC is proud to offer this service to any new and/or inexperienced coaches. We have many current and former coaches in all regions of the state ready to provide this mentoring service to better ensure your coaching experience is a positive one for you and all the stakeholders.

Requirements

MENTOR

The mentor acts as a resource for the mentee.

The mentor initiates and organizes phone calls and any other activity that may be useful.

  • Must be an MABC member
  • Must have 4+ years’ experience in your role/retired
  • Must be willing to make a one-year commitment

MENTEE

The mentee shows a willingness to actively participate in all mentoring calls and activities.

  • Must be an MABC member
  • Must have three years or less in your current role (exceptions varied)
  • Must be willing to make a one-year commitment
